I've been teaching at an urban high school (my only district) since 2009. I've taught Civics, US History, World History, Psychology, Sociology, and now We the People. I've been designated the leader of World History due to the way I organize everything and the ideas I have. For every class I've ever taught, I created the curriculum, assessments, and projects. If others are also teaching the same course, they have a lot of input, but most people just defer to me. In 2016-2017, I was asked to be a mentor to new teachers in my school. I was asked in the same year to become a mentor-in-training for a class before I even started teaching it - We the People.
Largely project-based learning with a generous amount of movies for my visual learners!
I received Teacher of the Month in December 2016, mainly for the amount of work I put into developing curriculum and projects.
I hold a BS in Criminal Justice. I transitioned that into a teaching license beginning in 2008. I never did student teaching - it was baptism by fire for me!
I was a juvenile probation officer for about 5 years before going back to school to be a teacher. You may have seen me on "MTV Juvies." :) I'm also a single mom of 1 girl.
