TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching since 2001 and have experience in Virginia and Florida schools. I have taught grades 8-11 in English class and 9-12 in journalism class.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in the power of teaching to state and local standards. If students know what is expected of them (standards), then they can set goals to meet those standards throughout the school year. I spend a lot of time gathering data for students to evaluate their progress. This is a requirement in my school district, but I believe that the data (if it is meaningful), can truly help teachers and students understand student areas of need.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Brendan Haywood All-Star Teacher - 2006 Mentor Teacher - 2010-2016 Grade Level Team Leader - English 10 and English 11 Cooperating Teacher -2018

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BA - English Education, James Madison University, 2001 MA - Interactive Journalism, American University, 2007

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love creating documents to share with other teachers. I am constantly coming up with new ways to help students achieve their goals. When I share my work with colleagues, they are often excited about it and use my ideas in their classrooms. I am excited to be able to share my ideas with teachers beyond the four walls of my own school building.
