I'm brand new to teaching but I've already fallen head over heels in love with this profession. I am currently student teaching in a grade 3 classroom and am focusing on inferring (LA) and bar graphs (Math), as well as painting in Art.
While I am still currently developing my teaching style, I have found that having a very open, honest approach with the students is key to good teaching. Allowing them to be aware of the prescribed learning outcomes at the beginning of the lesson, for example, really clears up any confusion that they might have in regards to the lesson, and gives them more ownership of their learning.
In the past I have been given several awards for my community service and efforts in volunteering. I have volunteered for the local art gallery, heading a family Sunday's art program that helped to get local families involved in creative processes as a team. I have also volunteered at our city's rec centre doing seasonal events for children and their families, such as Hallowe'en and Christmas events.
I am currently finishing my Bachelor of Education at the University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna. I have also completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and minoring in Art History.
