I am in my 12th year of teaching. I am also Nationally Boared Certified. I taught first grade for 6 years, third grade for 4 years, and second grade for 1 year. I asked to go back to first grade this year...I missed the basics. I have been grade level chair for 3rd and 1st grade, last year and this year. My lessons contain Common Core Standards, student friendly standards, and a short blurb for posting on your website if you have one. Argumentation and writing are essential parts of the lessons and included as often as possible. Each day is a different color and has a stop sign at the end of each day.
Structured in order for my students to feel safe with expectations and schedules. I am very organized and create many of my own tables and tracking systems for much of what I do in my room. I am learning how to use I-pads with my students to help them become more creative in the teaching and learning process. *Lessons are created with "thinking green" in mind. Students do most of creating and writing, no need for printing/copying much of anything.
I was part of a team of less than 10 people to create the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County Health Benchmarks for K-5, specifically focused on 3-5. The staff at my school elected me to be the FAC/TAC representative a few years ago, and this year they elected me to be on the School Leadership Team.
Purdue University - Bachelor of Arts, certification in Elementary Education from Brenau University, and Nationally Board Certified.
I have started fruit & vegetable awareness at our school with both staff and students as a challenge and monthly competition. I have been nationally recognized for this program with a write up in a health newsletter, and receive local support from health food stores to further promote the program. I have also received grants from Donor's Choose the last 3 years.
