I have been a teacher in a self contained pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classroom. I have also spent time working with intervention in 3rd and 4th grade.
I like to have a classroom that allows for student-directed learning. When I teach lessons that have a lot of teacher direction I always try to add in an activity so that students can participate with the lesson. I believe in kids moving around to learn. My philosophy is... if I can't sit still for extended periods of time then why would I ever expect children to?

I come from a family of educators and administrators. I originally went to school to be a lawyer but soon realized my true love was teaching children. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. I immediately entered a certification program and earned my Master of Arts in Teaching. I am currently working towards my Master of Educational Leadership and then will pursue my doctorate.
I love kids! I love trying new things in the classroom so that my students don't see the same things over and over again. The thing that drives me to always work to find new ways to reach all my students is my own past. I had a first grade teacher that put me in the corner with phonics worksheets because I didn't immediately grasp phonics. I did worksheets instead of learning to read. My mother, a student teacher at the time, taught my to read over Christmas break. Phonics isn't my strongest skill and it never will be, but that doesn't mean I didn't deserve to learn and I always try to remember that when I see a student struggling. Another obvious fact about me is that I love everything Dr. Seuss!
