I began my teaching career at Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, teaching 3rd grade, hearing impaired, for three years. Since then, I have worked in St. Johns County, teaching 3rd and 4th grade.
Throughout the 9 years in a classroom, this is the first year, that I have felt like I know what kind of teacher I am and it feels great!! Within my classroom, my students are involved in a lot of center based, hands-on, higher thinking activities. Students work independently, in partners or small group. Not much whole group takes place in my classroom. Reading, science and social studies, students are involved in whole group for about 20 minutes. I enjoy the mini-lesson and giving students the time to make discoveries and help as they need it. In math, I break my students up based on ability level. I meet with each group and teach a mini-lesson based of of the planned lesson for the whole class. This gives me the opportunity to teach each student the best way they are able to learn.
