TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a Special Education Teacher at Carrollton Middle School. I am the daughter of a retired educator and am passionate about my career field. I graduated with my BSEd in 2008 and a MEd in 2011, both degrees are in early childhood education. The first two years of my career were spent teaching third grade students in Cobb County Schools. I would describe those years as formative in both philosophy and practice. I am extremely grateful for the time I was able to serve the students of my home school district. In 2010, I returned to UWG as a fulltime student and the graduate assistant to the Cherokee Rose Writing Project. I regard those years as important in developing an appreciation for literacy education. In 2011, I was asked to join the College of Education as a part-time instructor. I describe my experience as a privilege and enjoy getting to work with future educators and help them along their journey. The fall of 2013 marked my first year as a Special Education Teacher at Carrollton Middle School. I feel special education is my calling and regard everyday as an opportunity to help my exceptional students be successful. Getting the chance to work with students with disabilities gives me joy. I love watching them learn new things. I love celebrating their accomplishments and working on areas that are difficult for them. As a teacher I get to help students become who they want to be.
