I have been teaching for 9 years; primarily as a core teacher in grade 1, 2, 3,with a brief stint in a 4/5 split. I have taught the 2/3 split numerous times as well and seem to have found my niche in those two grades! There's something special about primary!
Over the past few years, I have been exploring the inquiry-driven classroom. I have a lot to learn but am loving how the inquiry process inspires the kids. My goal is to generate excitement and momentum in the classroom by using what we are learning in science to provide an authentic context for problem solving in math. I have seen students deeply engage in developing strategies to solve math problems because they feel connected to the content and want to find out the answer. Children really love solving authentic, real-world math problems that they believe to be relevant. This is what I try to make happen in the classroom.
