TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching Elementary Art for over 10 years. As I am the only art teacher I see all students regardless of their "standing" outside of my class. I have a weekly class load of close to 600 students covering all grades K-5. I also travel between two buildings on a daily basis, and report to two different Principals. I also have been running our after-school program for 7 years, both as a Site Director and as a Program Director. This program also operates in two buildings.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I spend as little as time as possible with direct teaching which gives me time for individual help and for the kids to shine. After reading art teacher blogs for about 10 years I have realized that my teaching style is quite unique. My program is designed to begin with students in kindergarten with lots of scaffolding and progresses through the end of 5th grade where the students are basically creating their own projects within the parameters that I set.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BS in Elementary Education Licensed to teach K-6 General Ed Licensed to teach Art PreK-12th grade

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I began teaching in my early 40's, which I believe greatly influences my teaching style. I served in the military, ran a home based arts & crafts business for 12 years when I was a stay at home mom. I have lived in several states and Germany. I love to travel and try new things. I am always on the lookout for new ideas and inspirations for my students. Since I am also licensed K-6 General Ed (and have always been old enough to be my students Gma) my art classes have a different spin than many classes I have seen.
