I am currently a 5th grade teacher in Plano, TX. I have taught for four years, and each year I learn something new! I have taught pre-k and second grade students in summer school - I feel like I could be happy teaching any age child, but I sure do have fun in 5th grade. :)
I believe that my instruction is strongest when I strive for student-centered lessons. My classroom environment fosters creativity, respect, and risk-taking.
Beginning Teacher of the Year - Barksdale Elementary, Plano ISD
I received my bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Texas in Austin and my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University. I believe that I am even better at being a student than a teacher, and that is how I can truly relate to the kids that I educate.
The big question I always get: "Are you related to Walt?" The not-so-exciting answer: "Yes, but I don't get free tickets. I am very distantly related." Regardless of how distant and minor the relation is, my students still get a kick out of my name! :)
