I taught in the English Language Arts classroom for ten years before I began homeschooling. During that time I developed several unit plans that I used multiple times. I taught regular, honors, and Advanced Placement classes, and now I teach elementary subjects for my own child, so I have quite a wide variety of resources and experience.
I prefer a hands on teaching style with rigorous work for high school students. I believe knowledge should be deep before it is wide, so I love unit studies as a way to delve into a topic. I especially favor cross curricular studies as they allow for depth and relativity.
I have presented one of my units at the Gulf Coast Writing Conference and done professional development for co-workers.
I attended Troy University for my undergraduate and graduate work. I have a BS in English with a minor in Criminal Justice in addition to my MS in English Education. I am a certified teacher in the state of Alabama.
My mother was an English teacher for thirty-six years. I was born a teacher, and, while I enjoyed my time in the traditional classroom, I am thoroughly enjoying my experiences as a homeschool teacher.
