TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a high school history teacher for 12 years (as of the 2016-2017 year). Teacher of record for Ancient World History, Modern World History, Co-taught Modern World History, American Studies II, Eastern Cultures, Western Cultures, African and Asian American Experience, and Comparative Human and Civil Rights (all classes at honors and college prep levels.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Largely project based. Lots of activities that touch on Gardener's multiple intelligences theory.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Awarded two NEH seminar's - Landmarks of America History Culture Workshop: Contested Homelands: knowledge, history and culture of historic Santa Fe and Landmarks of American History Culture Workshop: The USS Constitution and the War of 1812 Awarded Gilder Lehrman summer institute: The Economics of Slavery held at Harvard University. RA of the year at UMass (2003). I've received teacher kudos of the month every single year since teaching.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

BA in history from UMass (Amherst). MA in education from UMass (Amherst). December 2006, November 2008, February 2009, December 2009, October 2010, January 2011, April 2012, November 2012, December 2013, & October 2014 Teacher of the Month. Faculty mentor for student on Senator Moore's student advisory committee. Amnesty International advisor 2008-2011. Thirty hour famine co-advisor through this. Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. Semester in Salamanca, Spain. President for the 2003-2004 year, leading approximately 70 UMass members. Comprised of the top 1% of leaders on campus. Fluent in Spanish. Conversational in Italian. Basic skills in German, Hebrew and Russian. Traveled to all 50 states and 12 countries.

I am a married mother of 2 - a 2.5 year old son, Jackson and a 6 month old daughter, Isabelle, who has Down Syndrome.
