I have taught in public schools in the State of Florida for 37 years. I served as a Band Director and as a Math teacher for 20 years and 17 years respectively.
I strongly believe in a regular routine for my students. They already know what to do, and when or where to do it before they walk through the door. I practice the "I do, WE do, YOU do" procedure. Our daily "Bell Ringer serves as a preview OR review of the desired skill(s) aligned with C.R..I.S.S. styled strategies, enabling the student(s) to successfully complete the activity without assistance from the teacher. Next, we practice together, and at the "board", culmination with each student attempting independent success using our "Exit Card".
I was voted "Teacher of the Year" in 1988 as a Band Director at Northport Middle School. In 2002, I was again elected "Teacher of the Year" as a Math teacher at Ft. Pierce Westwood High School where I served as Math Department Chair from 2002 to 2009.
I graduated from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, FL in 1974. I graduated from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. In 1988, I completed coursework at Indian River State College & Florida Atlantic University required to obtain a Mathematics 7-12 certificate in the State of Florida
I performed in the 1076 piece marching band at the grand opening of Walt Disney World in Orlando in 1972. I was a member of the 1974 Florida All-State Symphonic Band. I was a member of the Florida A&M University Marching 100 from '74 to '78. In 1985 I drove Lou Brock, the famous baseball player to Dodger town in Vero Beach in my new 1985 Chrysler 5th Ave. I opened a gate for, and met Squiggy from the Laverne and Shirley Show. I watched a full grown Florida panther dive in front of my vehicle and cross the Florida Turnpike in FOUR strides! (The final 2 events occurred during the early 80's)
