TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Eight years teaching. Began as a literacy coach in an inner city school for 4th and 5th graders. Switched over to a new Interational Baccalaureate program in my district and began teaching 6th and 7th grade world history for the next five years. The last two have been spent with the IB program at the high school level teaching 9th grade civics and economics.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Project-based with use of criterion grading systems. Creating all authentic assessments for students specifically to cater to the high percentage of academically gifted students within my population. Being part of an IB program I look to incorporate internationalism in all units and assessments when humanly possible. Also making blended-learning lessons with technology is key for prepping students for further education.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

IBEN consultant and edcuator. Consultant for the University of North Carolina Globally Competent Teaching Continuum. Action-research member of the Governor's Teacher Network for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
