I have taught for 14 years. Beginning in a self-contained 5th grade and most recently teaching Ancient History to 6th, US History to 8th grade and geography to both grades.
I try to make everything I teach interesting and engaging because at the end of the day I want my students to walk away loving history. If they leave my class appreciating history than I have done my job. I want them to learn many things but without enjoyment of the subject students struggle to learn. I, also, try to incorporate as many primary sources as possible, so the students can hear firsthand from the people who lived through these events.
I received the Work of the Heart Award, which is given to dedicated teachers, who are nominated by peers or parents. My greatest teaching moments are when my students ask a question in which they have actively pieced together information that has been discussed in class in order to come to a new understanding about history and the world.
I have a BA in Political Philosophy and Masters in Humanities.
I love history and geography. I, especially, love tying them together to give my students a richer understanding of the subject at hand and the larger world today.
