I am new to teaching, and LOVING IT! I teach middle school, and during the summer, I teach middle and high school aged students in summer school.
I have a facilitator type teaching style, where much of my classroom time is spent on student-centered activities. Responsibility is placed on students to meet their learning objectives, and requires them to take initiative. I LOVE projects that extend their thinking beyond the obvious. I LOVE cooperative group learning, and watching them learn from each other. This style requires quite a bit of preparation, but in class, my students are the ones who do the work, and the learning.
I attended a local university and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Communication, with a minor in Creative Writing, and almost enough credits for a second degree in English. After working as a professional photographer for a few years, I went back and got certified to teach. I have a passion for teaching, and though I love photography and design, I do not have a passion for running my own business. I love the feeling at the end of each day that, perhaps, something I did that day will have a lifelong effect on one of my students.
I am a wife, a mother, an aspiring novelist, an excellent friend, a pretty darn good cook (according to my husband and children, who aren't biased at all,) a part-time photographer, and an all the time lover of learning. I want to see the world, take in as much as I can of life, and live forever through my writing.
