TEACHING EXPERIENCE

In addition to homeschooling my son in the Montessori method, I have spent 4 years as an assistant Montessori teacher in a CASA classroom. I also design and teach a highly popular weekly science lesson series at the school. I have my CASA level Montessori teacher's certificate (MACTE accredited), as well as over 10 years experience teaching Sunday school, tutoring, leading at day camps, and volunteering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Canada. During my 4 years in industry as an applications engineer, I designed training materials and held technical classes for the employees at my workplace. While studying at university, I also worked as a writing tutor for other university students, and during high school, I tutored younger high school students, as well as assisted in a French program.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style leans most towards the Montessori method and interest led learning. That said, I believe that teachers using every philosophy can learn and gain insight from other schools of thought. In my opinion, any activity that inspires a child to delve into knowledge and get excited about it is worth exploring. When designing teaching materials, I try to find ways to make complicated concepts as clear, as simple, and as interesting as possible. The best lessons engage all of the senses, can be touched and moved around, make children think for themselves, and can be related to real life. Stir up the children's passion, and they will learn.
