This is not a lesson plan, per se. This is an analysis of Edgar Allan Poe’s “Philosophy of Composition”, an essay he wrote about “The Raven”. In it, Poe outlines how and, more importantly, why he wrote “The Raven” exactly as he did. I have taught

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My experience is mostly in higher education, though I have taught at the K-12 level, primarily in grades 7-12. In higher education, I taught persuasive essay writing to freshman, where I taught basic standards of essay writing, principles of argumentation, structure, and purpose of argument and argument fallacies. I also taught an upper-level American literature course, which covered American Romantic and Transcendental literature, as well as essays and works through the Civil War period. Additionally, I have taught developmental writing and literature survey courses in community college. I have taught at the K-12 level, mostly as a substitute teacher over a combined period of about five years. I've worked primarily in English classes, but have taught all subject areas at many grade levels, even in different states. This experience gave me a lot of insight into what works and what doesn't in teaching and lesson planning and greatly informs my lesson plan designs. I currently hold a professional teaching certification in my home state.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I'm an informal, laid-back sort of instructor. I tend to put things in terms students can easily understand and relate to. I also like to relate concepts and ideas to current events, to keep the material not only relevant but interesting and fresh.
