I recently retired after 24 years experience with grades 8-11 at at-risk schools. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education with certificates in theatre and speech and a Master's of Science in Education in Instructional Technology, so curriculum building is my forte. I taught 8th English for three years, 9th English for 20 years, 10th English for one year, and AP Literature and Composition for six years. I taught beginning theatre, stage makeup, and stage design. Yearbook, newspaper, competitive speech and debate, and beginning speech round out my teaching experience. I have a solid knowledge of common core needs as well as the essential need of educators to be creative in the classroom. It's about lessons that engage!
I appreciate humor and energy in a classroom. Student engage more efficiently if they are at least amused. While it may have been a hair embarrassing to be told I could be heard down the hall, no one in my class was sleeping! I like lessons that can be either interactive or individual, depending on my class. We all know what it's like to have one class (or more) that cannot be trusted to work together.
