I have been teaching biology, anatomy and two PLTW college courses called Principles of Biomedical science and Human Body systems for the past seven years. I have a bachelors in biology and a masters in education from the University of Sioux Falls. I also teach a few online classes once a week.
My teaching style is pretty simple. I teach the info with breaks in between to help engage the students while including practice and hands on learning. I try to find ways to relate to the topic or to have the kids be able to relate to the topic using something the are interested in or something they already know very well.
I recently received the teacher of the year in 2017. We also received a state finalist title in 2013-2014 in the samsung solve for tomorrow challenge in our science class and received fifth place in all.
Over the past few years, I have evolved as a teacher based off of my continuing education. I have taken numerous summer courses in order to be certified and to be able to teach certain courses with in the STEM focus areas. I feel as if I have grown as a teacher and have become more comfortable with my knowledge of how everything works. I love expanding my knowledge and growing as a teacher any chance I get.
