For a magical decade, I served as happy ringleader to a lively Santa Barbara choir known as "Lessia's Crew." As kids shared challenges with me daily, I soon realized I could greatly empower students by penning useful life insights into songs that were addictively fun to sing. As my songbirds evolved into a "SB Phenom!" (Montecito Journal), students began professionally recording my wisdom-packed songs. We've moved up to pretty Sonoma now, where I'm happy to report that offering useful insights and take-no-prisoners common sense still gets me giant hugs. I often hear, "Your song just saved my life!" I love my work :-)
Arming kids with “spot on” understanding greatly improves their chances of becoming happy, productive classroom citizens. Powerful lyrics linger on and become new thinking. I'm in love with words and share this fun addiction with my students. Every BP lyric line serves as a writing prompt. Melodies are designed to help students sing more fluidly. Although I'm a highly trained songwriter and producer, my main focus with teaching is to help kids discover harmony in life through a better understanding of human nature and the power of positive thought.
A while back, we received a fan letter from Susan Sarandon. She said she loved our music, then offered up her youngest son to be our bass player. How cute is that? We get the most extraordinary mail! A Sonoma student chose my songs as the "Hero" for a classroom project. She explained that BP lyrics changed her view of life-- and what she wanted to do with hers. I was humbled. A little while ago, I received a touching video from a young autistic boy thanking me for my Nonconformist song. Soon after, his mom sent me a second video that featured him playing another BP song on the piano- he'd figured it all out by rote! I was honored to have Dru Frick, a lovely Santa Barbara teacher, offer to write simple lesson plans for my songs when I first joined TpT. Now I'm excited to be working with Retta from Rainbow City Learning. Retta wrote me so many wonderful emails about how her own students were inspired by my material, I finally asked if she'd like to co-create. We're hard at work created ELA units these days as "Bullyproof Rainbow!" Also, please check our our new clip art store. It's called Awesome Sauce :-)
Lessia: USC's program for gifted students, San Francisco Conservatory, Music Academy of the West, Curtis Institute of Music, Dick Grove (contemp music) Dru: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and experienced in inquiry based learning, International Baccalaureate trained. For my BR co-hort Retta, please see RCL.
Fun stuff: The sweet voices on our studio recordings include Jessie Bridges- daughter of actor, Jeff, Viva- daughter of Martin of the band "Depeche Mode," and Rachel Sand, an actor who shares a manager with Hilary Duff. I'm proud mom of two wonderful sons. My better half is a speaker engineer/designer named Teddy. He's Canadian.
