For a magical decade, I served as ringleader to a lively batch of songbirds known as "Lessia's Crew." During this fun adventure, I realized I could empower kids of all ages by placing useful life insights into songs that were addictively fun to sing. As our colorful choir evolved into a "Santa Barbara Phenom!" (Montecito Journal,) we began professionally recording our wisdom-packed songs with my most gifted students as lead singers. In Sonoma now, I'm happy to report that inspiring self awareness through meaningful lyrics still gets me giant-sized hugs. "Your songs are saving my life!" I get that a lot. I love my work :-)
Dig deep - and keep kids captivated! Our new BR units take critical thinking to a brand new level. I am also a firm believer in using humor to reach kids. Although I'm a highly trained songwriter and producer, my main focus is on creative ELA, social skills, and helping students discover their voices in every possible way. Every lyric line is a writing prompt. In love with words, I share that passion with kids. Melodies are specifically structured to improve voices too. Win-win! And may we all live in harmony :-)
We once received a fan letter from Susan Sarandon. She said she loved our music, then offered up her youngest son to be our bass player. How cute is that? A Beach Boy asked me write with him, that was pretty awesome. My life has been full of surprises - I feel so blessed! One student chose my songs as her "Hero" for a classroom project. That made my LIFE! Working with Retta London on BR projects has been a joy and an honor.
