For a decade, I served as ringleader to a fun-loving choir known as "Lessia's Crew." During this adventure, I stumbled upon a magic formula; I learned I could easily get all those kids I counseled to think more deeply and act more compassionately towards themselves and others by placing life wisdoms into addictively fun to sing songs. As our crew became a "Santa Barbara Phenom!" (Montecito Journal,) we began recording in a fancy studio - my students shining as lead singers. Fun trivia: Justin Timberlake's drummer played drums for us. His name is Bucket - he's a hoot! I'm in Sonoma now - happy to report that helping kids fill their pockets with insight still earns me giant hugs. "Your songs are saving my life!" I get that a lot. I love my work :-)
Kids often call me their Yoda. When the do, I laugh: "I've just been on the planet longer!" I have a passion for words, which I share with my kiddos. We write to figure things out! I also love promoting the idea that everyone can sing. BP melodies are melodically fluid. They help kids sing better, and structured in a way that makes teaching intervals and rhythms interesting. As a trained pianist, singer, songwriter, and producer, it's easy for me to come up with songs that appeal to all demographics. As a mom and counselor, it's easy for me to know what to write into my lyrics to most empower (and enlighten!) kids.
We once received a fan letter from Susan Sarandon. She said she loved our music, then offered up her youngest son to be our bass player. How adorable it that? Once a "Beach Boy" asked me write with him. Be still my heart! When student chose my songs as her "hero" for a classroom project, I was humbled! My songs have served as backdrops for award-winning documentaries, won oodles of awards. but honestly, a hug from any student is the best reward of all.
