My name is Mark Banasiak and I have had the pleasure of teaching elementary physical education for over 15 years and currently teach at Sango Elementary School in Clarksville, TN. I am the physical educator I am today through the support of my family, colleagues, administrators, PTA, and the knowledge I have gained through professional development!
I teach more than gym…I teach PHYSICAL EDUCATION! That is, I teach children how to: •move and increase their heart rate •work cooperatively •think creatively •use offensive and defensive strategies •try new challenges •persevere when frustrated •use integrity •listen and follow directions •dribble, throw, strike, pass, dance, catch, and much more! Most importantly…I teach children the skills to be a lifetime mover! My goal is to provide an inviting classroom where all students can experience growth in their skill development. I want to equip each child with the basic skills so that when they see an activity at recess, in the neighborhood, at the park, or anywhere else that they have the confidence to say, “Hey, I can try that because I learned it in PE!”
I have had the pleasure of attending and presenting at numerous state, regional, and national workshops/conferences. In 2011, I was humbled to be a co-recipient of the Share the Wealth Puckett-Merriman Physical Education Professional Award. I have had the privilege of having items published through TAHPERD and Great Activities (Fall '13 & '14). I am also a National Board Certified Teacher (2013).
I am a graduate of Tennessee Technological University (BS ‘98) and Austin Peay State University (MS ‘00).
