I worked as a student teacher Santa Ana, CA in a 1st/2nd & 2nd/3rd combo classes. In Newport-Mesa Unified School District, I student taught in a 4th grade class, as well as a 4th/5th combo class. I served as a long-term sub for two 6th grade classes. Additionally, I served as a long-term sub at Newport-Coast Elementary in a third grade class. During the interim months, I substitute taught in almost every elementary, junior high, and high school throughout the NMUSD, while tutoring over a dozen students across Orange County. I served as an adjunct professor in the Liberal Studies Department teaching Intro to Education, and am now in my fourth year of teaching fourth grade. I have also spent three years teaching fifth grade.
Students learn best when they feel at liberty to express themselves without fear of being embarrassed when they suggest new ideas or attempt to answer questions. I believe that my role as a teacher can best be defined as a facilitator of knowledge. When students intrinsically desire to increase their understanding of the world around them, I know I have succeeded. I also believe that students should be empowered and encouraged to use their voices to think differently. Allowing creativity and wonder to abound each and every day. My ultimate goal is to inspire my students to become lifelong learners, and to become catalysts for positive change in their communities.

I am in the process of co-writing two books. The first is a historical-fiction novel primarily aimed at persons seventh grade and older. The second book is one focused on various teaching strategies that I have found to be most useful and effective. The book contains ideas that have sparked creativity and wonder within the hearts and minds of my students that hopefully others will find useful in their own classrooms.
