I am a SLP and have worked in early intervention up to age 13. Currently I work in an out of district placement for students with autism and multiple disabilities. I am a feeding therapist, early language, AAC and work mostly with children that require making language meaningful.
I utilize a total communication, multisensory approach to speech therapy. I feel you need to take into consideration the whole child and their internal state to help them become successful. Sometimes planned "ignoring" leads to initiation of communication. I try to be an observer to understand each child's learning style, and make materials accordingly.
