This is my 11th year of teaching ELA. For 10 years, I've taught 6th grade, but just recently made the switch to 7th. I teach ELA as a block class, with reading and English all bundled into one.
My teaching style is hard to describe - I get bored easily, so I like to switch things up sometimes. Classroom routines are very important to me, don't get me wrong - I need that normalcy in a day full of middle school craziness. The "I do, we do, you do" strategy is almost always present. I think it is very important for students to se and hear my way of thinking through things. I like to joke with my students and tell them stories from my real-life that connect back to the lesson concept.
I was selected to Teacher of the Year in 2007. I currently serve on my school's Instructional Leadership Team and act as a facilitator for my PLC group.
I graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in December 2003.
I live with my husband, 5-year-old daughter, and 6-month-old dachshund mix puppy. I love reading, retail therapy, feeding my Pinterest addiction, and painting/refinishing furniture.
