TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently in my third year of teaching as a social studies teacher. I began teaching at a middle school for 6th, 7th and 8th grade (I know-I am crazy)! I fell in love with middle school and teaching as well as learning from all my kiddos. However, I recently saw an opportunity to teach at my dream school for a high school position and I jumped on it! I teach 9th grade, 11th, and 12th grade, focusing on World History, American Government, and Area Studies (Middle East and East Asian).

MY TEACHING STYLE

I became a teacher because my own teachers growing up were simply inspirational and superheroes. They challenged me while uplifting me in kind and encouraging ways. My teachers were my role models and I knew that I wanted to become one in order to make a difference for students just in the same way my own teachers did for me. Therefore, I teach to engage, uplift, challenge, and support. I engage students by meeting all their learning styles and needs; I uplift my students by encouraging them to rise to their very best selves every single day; I challenge by students by motivating them to go beyond what they think they can do; I support my students in their journey to grow. My content reflects my teaching style in which I create interactive, hands-on, and resources with higher-order thinking skills where students take ownership of learning while meeting the 21st century skills that the Common Core encourages. I also believe in the benefit of a technologically driven classroom where the content drives the technology-not the technology driving the content. Therefore, my lessons are mostly Google compatible as well as easily downloadable to be used for any software that is used within the classroom.
