TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I currently teach science in a segregated middle school unit classified as Emotionally and Behaviorally Disturbed. Not only do our student have learning disabilities and intellectual delays, they also have severe physiological diagnoses. The academic skills in a class will range from students being three grades below level to students above grade level.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In my classroom, I maintain consistency by using scaffold lesson plans. The lesson plans clearly state the "I Can" statements, review prior knowledge, teach important vocabulary first, explicitly explain the new content, include guided practice and independent practice. A majority of the lessons include hands on experiences or lead up to a hands on experience. Expectations are reviewed frequently and clearly stated.
