I have been in the autism field for nearly 20 years as an educator, trainer, non-profit founder, and start-up entrepreneur. Nothing brings me more happiness than helping individuals with autism unlock their fullest potential. As an educator, I taught in self contained autism classrooms. I also ran social groups at an autism nonprofit. I have trained over 10,000 parents and professionals in autism best practices, and have volunteered in developing countries to spread autism awareness and resources. Currently, I am a founder at Infiniteach, a small company building digital tools to empower the autism community.
I believe there are simple, powerful strategies that underlie efficacious autism intervention. The first is individualization - adjusting learning according to interests, attention span, age, etc is important since every individual with autism is unique. I believe, and research supports, that visuals are the best way for the majority of individuals with autism to consume information. By providing structure and clear end points, we reduce anxiety during learning and see more focus and engagement.
