Middle school science (7th and 8th grade), biology (10th grade)
Inquiry based research with cross-curricular studies that educates the student as a whole.
At the end of the 2016-17 school year I was presented with the "Most Lovable Teacher" award by the student body :) That made my whole year!
Millersville University - BSE Biology. Graduated May, 2011.
As a high school student I struggled greatly with math and science but excelled in foreign language, English, history, and the arts. I first intended to teach Spanish, but I realized quickly that I would have a greater connection with students if I taught something that I felt I was inherently "not good at". Over the course of five years I successfully completed the Biology Education program at Millersville University and obtained my certification for both middle level science and secondary biology education. I use my experience as a foundation to reach out to students who struggle with science, just as I had. The activities in my classroom bridge the gap between science and other subjects and allow students the freedom to explore material in a way that empowers them. There is no such thing as a student who is "not good at science", only students who haven't yet found a way to "do science" that works for them.
