I have worked in public education for over 30 years. I have taught students with special needs preschool through high school and have taught under-graduate and graduate level classes in education, special education, and leadership. I have also provided professional development opportunities to thousands of educators across the US and will be working with educators in Australia in the coming months. I am passionate about working with educators and parents to build their capacity to meet the needs of children with challenging behaviors and academic difficulties.
I believe that everyone learns more when there is a level of fun involved. I also think that activity supports learning. However, I also believe strongly in well-designed, thoughtfully-developed learning experiences that have very clear outcomes and that use evidence-based practices to deliver those outcomes. When fun, activity, and well-designed outcomes and strategies all come together it is simply magical!
I was in Who's Who Among America's Teachers for my work as a special education middle school teacher.
I have a BS, MA, and Ph.D. and my areas of emphasis have been special education and leadership. My dissertation focused on strategies for teaching comprehension of information text to struggling readers.
I am also the mother of four sons, two of whom have disabilities. I've been married for over thirty years and am a proud grandmother. After working as a teacher and administrator in public education for over 30 years, I recently started my own company so that I can work with educators and parents on a larger scale. I continue to teach at the university level and enjoy preparing young people to become committed and passionate educators.
