I am the founder of Intellect Learning Center, a tutoring center in Orland Park, IL. My vision was to create an educational environment where students ENJOY learning while they acquire the skills and confidence necessary to reach their full potential. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and later graduated with my Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology and Research from the University of Memphis. While at the University of Memphis, I worked as program coordinator for The New Teacher Project, an organization that hires and trains teachers to work in high-need schools. My research throughout graduate school focused on student motivation and the important role that teachers play in maintaining student focus and attention. I have conducted several research-based teacher training workshops in the U.S. and abroad. I recently completed a graduate certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from The Chicago School of Professional Chicago and I'm working towards becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). My passion for education began when my family took part in establishing private schools for American students living abroad. This gave me the opportunity to see the huge difference that a small group of people can make when they truly care about helping students. After graduating, I taught English Literature and Biology, and later worked in after-school tutoring programs. Throughout my career, I realized the great impact that one-to-one tutoring can have on students of all ages. I saw the growing need for more structured, results-oriented tutoring programs that are based on current research. This led me to join a group of other experienced and dedicated educators to form Intellect Learning Center.
I take an interactive approach while teaching to keep students engaged and interested in the material! My goal is to make sure students have a strong grasp of the basics and work towards developing critical thinking skills. I aim to help them apply what they learn in real-life situations. A major component of my instruction involves teaching STUDY SKILLS and core foundations of math and reading. Students who first master the basics, and then learn how to set and reach goals, utilize time effectively, think critically, and take an active role as learners are the ones who excel and develop independence.
