I began my teaching career in Methods Class at Lee University, and I taught third grade once a week. Afterwards, I moved to student teaching in which I got to teach first and sixth graders. It was a wonderful experience, and I loved all of these ages! Once I completed my student teaching, I was immediately hired to work at Mayfield Elementary School. I began my first year in first grade, and I got moved up to second grade. It has been a tremendous three years in second grade, and I look forward to many more years teaching in second grade.
When my students walk in the door, I want them to feel welcome and enjoy learning! In order to do both of these, I believe students should be able to not only just sit in a desk and listen... they need to have their hands on tools, move around the room, investigate, explore, use multiple resources, and most of all, have fun! My teaching involves stations and letting student somewhat take charge of their learning. I use all kinds of manipulatives in all lessons, and I have them talking all of the time! My classroom is not quiet, and that's how I love it! I absolutely love nothing more than to hear my students use vocab terms, tell how or why, and have smiles on their faces while learning!
I have had the honor and privilege of winning an award from Lee University after I completed student teaching. I was awarded with the Bilbo Student Teaching Award. It was a wonderful surprise that I will never forget! I also had a great honor of winning Teacher of the Week from News Channel 9. This was huge because someone anonymously put me up for this award! My class loved being on television and getting to display how hard they work in class!
My education took place in Cleveland, TN. I started middle school here and went all the way through to graduate from Cleveland High School in 2007. After graduating, I attended Lee University to earn my Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies. It was wonderful in all of these places!
