I had a beautiful ride as a middle school teacher for 30 years. During that time I taught fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade language arts and sometimes social studies. I even taught math and science one year. One of my greatest pleasures while teaching was working with wonderful and inspirational teachers, attending influential and sometimes not so influential workshops. However, my greatest experiences always came from the satisfaction my students gave me when their "ah-ha" moments occurred or when they took the time to tell me "thank you". Now, I wish to share my experience I used in the classroom with others that are still giving to the many needs of children all over the world.
As Erin McKean said, "Part of the joy and pleasure of English is its boundless creativity: I can describe a new machine as bicyclish, I can say that I'm vitamining myself to stave off a cold, I can complain that someone is the smilingest person I've ever seen, and I can decide, out of the blue, that 'fetch' is now the word I want to use to mean 'cool." My style of teaching was never the same from day to day because things can appear differently from day to day. My style was always reflected in the moment! I call it creativity!
It's not in me to brag too much about myself... Please let it be sufficient to say, my colleagues honored me more than once, and my students permitted me to shine with recognition.
