I have been teaching for 23 years. I taught at a preschool during college for 4 years and then I started teaching Spanish at a high school in South Carolina. I then moved to California where I taught 1st grade for 7 years and then went to 2nd and then 3rd grade. I am currently teaching 6th grade math to at-risk students and I love it! I have also taught Spanish at a community college.
I try to make everything I teach and do fun and funny. The students and I are laughing a lot every day. Since I teach the lowest students in the school (and kids who hate math) I teach them at their own level. Many come in to my class with only 2nd or 3rd grade skills and I have to bring them to a 6th grade level. So, I designed a program called "It's Not a Worksheet" to help students practice basic skills quickly and at their own level. They love to see how much they progress in a short time.
I was teacher of the year in 2007. I was the Comcast, Sports Net All-Star Teacher of the Year in 2015
I graduated for Greensboro College with a degree in Secondary Education and Spanish. I earned a masters degree in Elementary Education from USC-South Carolina.
I am planning on going back to school to get my PhD in math education.
