Ah the joys of teaching and children! There are definitely ups and downs, but I know in my heart that teaching is what I was created to do. I have been working in elementary schools since I was 17 years old. I worked as a SPED aide, a Title I aide, and a self contained SPED aide, as well as an office aide. I ADORED working in schools and new from the time I was quite young that I would be a teacher one day. I have now been a full time teacher for 2 1/2 school years. I will have my professional teaching license May 2016!
Teaching styles are so fickle. It can depend on the day, the subject matter, and the class. If I had to choose one word to describe my teaching style though it would be: boisterous. Which I know isn't a style but it is how I teach. I am loud, my class is loud, we sing, we dance, we play, and boy do we work! Sometimes I am loud with angry words, generally though just quite firm. I think of myself as a more traditional style teacher because I have a zero tolerance attitude to many things, but others describe me as a modern, data driven, student oriented teacher.
I have never personally received any honors. This does not concern me. We are not in it for others to give us a pat on the back. My school has received Title I awards every year I have taught there. I have reasonable SAGE scores (I'm in Utah) and have glowing professional and personal evaluations.
I graduated from Utah State University with a bachelors in Elementary Education. I am working on my level II math license and have one more class to obtain for my Gifted/Talented Endorsement.
