second/third grade teacher / math liaison. Fifteen years. Trained in teacher's college for reading and writing.
I primarily create lessons based on the Lucy Calkins Units of Study, and the Teacher's College methodology. In addition, my style is somewhat unusual because I am known a the teacher that uses puppets to teach in all the content areas. I have a basic wooden puppet theater and many puppets, both finger, hand, and even homemade ones. Students remember my lessons years later because puppets are engaging, and leave them with something to connect the learning to. My skits always address a standard and have a specific purpose, so students don't even know they are learning something standard related-but they are. I post all of my skits on charts around the room after teaching with them, constantly referring back to them when students need reinforcement of a strategy or skill. Throughout the year the puppets take on personalities and students see them a unique characters, predicting what they are thinking and what they will do in certain situations. You will see that many of my lessons begin with a puppet skit of some sort. I hope your students enjoy them! All common core standards are also listed in each lesson plan. I just started posting things here so give me time to upload more and more each day!!!
Although I never received any, I think every teacher deserves honors and awards.
