Jamie Miller taught 1st grade for 6 years and is now entering the 3rd grade classroom. Jerica Wyant taught 1st grade for 5 years, has spent some time in intervention, and will be teaching 2nd grade this following school year. We both work at an at-risk/high FRL school in North Carolina.
We believe a successful classroom is a good balance between direct and indirect teaching. We have a strong focus on center based and team learning. We have started the process of truly integrating Project Based Learning into our everyday practice.
Jerica Wyant was selected as her school's Teacher of the Year for the 2013/2014 school year.
Jamie Miller got her degree in K-6 Education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Jerica Wyant got her degree in Child Development as well as in K-6 Education from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina.
This past year North Carolina has been in the process of changing from the NC Standard Course of Study to the infamous Common Core. Due to this change, we have been working hard and trying to create materials that will truly benefit our students’ learning, giving them to opportunity to be successful. Since we work in an at-risk community we have needed to find different ways to meet all of our students on a wide range of levels.
