So far, my teaching experience has been predominantly with young students. Creative lesson plans, guided reading units, team building and classroom management have all been wonderful challenges. Also, I have coached, tutored, and advised college students as well as prospective college students. As a GED tutor of adults in my community, I have offered my best coaching based on individual needs and college/career decisions and planning. Through my efforts, I have been able to guide adult learners to support systems which opened pathways for future success. My latest educational endeavor includes earning my TEFL certification and teaching abroad!
Teaching and learning have a variety of meaning, and encompass a wide world of generalities. It is my personal belief that education is life-long, and stimulating the mind is a work in progress just as an evolving composition of literature. In order to sort through the vastness, we need to internalize, which in turn helps us learn how to learn. I believe this internalization occurs in the individual student through modes of free thought and play, a process of exploration that can only occur with freedom and the independency of the creative imagination. As we learn, and I certainly include myself, we use our environments as resources of inspiration. It is my intention to teach the value of independence and personal evaluation while maintaining a resourceful environment. There is something magical about the attainment of literacy that can be seen on the face and in the spirit of any learner. It is one of our remarkable human conditions. It is natural for us to thirst for the knowledge and experience of others and ourselves. It is my intention to see that I aid in its continuation. Student’s have an innate curiosity for learning that needs to be embraced daily. A learner’s mind is malleable just as gold is when it is warm. It is my intention to shape this mind with positive feedback, motivation, and more warmth in hopes that is never grows cold to education.

I grew up in a small farming community in New York's Southern Tier. Loved going to school! Mom checked my homework every night, drilled me on my spelling words, and always had her hand out when I came home with a report card. Education was highly valued in our house. I struggled with math, and Chemistry, and only liked my history with a heavy dose of literature. After graduating high school I went on to college, college and more college. Eventually, I ended up with a Bachelor degree in English Literature/Writing, and a Master of Childhood Education. In between all of that I spent my spare time writing stories for children and young readers.
Writing short stories and story books for children is a passion of mine and do continually query for publication. I started a small business, Jack Kreations, and have since designed my website, kolorfulkid.com, where you can find lesson plans and much more.
