TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 6 years. I worked my first two years as a Special Education Itinerant Teacher traveling to homes and schools to provide special education services to children between the ages of 3 and 5 - mostly children on the Autistic Spectrum. After job security as a SEIT seemed to be weakening, I moved to the NYC Department of Education where I am now finishing my 4th year of teaching. I taught two years of 1st grade, one year of 6th grade and now back with the little ones (where I'm happiest), teaching kindergarten -- all special education classes.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I'm a hands-on, make it fun, celebrate the small successes kind of teacher. My favorite way of expressing my job is telling people that I am paid for my patience. While I may not be the type of person who can sit behind a desk 40 hours a week and create business proposals or keep an accurate accounting of funds, I am someone who has a specific strength – my patience. I work with the students that others don’t want to, and love it. I take on those students and find the positives in them. This is more than just a job to me, more than a career; it’s a lifestyle, my passion.
