My first year of teaching was in 1997. I started out as a special education teacher serving students in grades 3, 4, and 5. After that, I spent 3 years teaching reading to students in grades 1 through 4. Since I moved to the regular classroom, most of my time has been spent teaching a 2nd/3rd grade looping class. Currently, I teach 3rd grade.
I believe in getting to know my students and forming strong relationships with them. This sets the foundation for everything else I do in the classroom. I try to relate my lessons to my students' lives and their interests as much as possible. In my room, students often work in small groups or with partners. Things change from year to year--and sometimes from day to day--depending on the needs of the students.
