I have three years' experience working in the corporate world, in educational publishing and web programming. I have five years teaching high school English (9th; 10th; 9th and 10th Advanced/Gifted; American Studies; 11th; Speech; Mass Media). I was a yearbook supervisor for two years.
I believe in constructivist, experiential learning opportunities for students. I incorporate multiple modes of learning into my lessons and materials in order to differentiate for my students. Technology is a specialty of mine, and I try to stay current with new ways to integrate it effectively into the lessons and units I create. I also have a background in graphic design and pride myself on the aesthetic qualities of the materials, presentations, and documents I create. I am very proficient in Adobe Photoshop, PPT, and Prezi platforms.
Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honor Society, Dean's List, Teacher of Promise for State of Virginia, 2007
I have a B.A. in English and History; M.Ed. in Secondary English Language Arts Instruction; and I am currently working towards my Ph.D. in Education Administration. Only six more courses to go! (and a dissertation, of course). All of my degrees have been attained at top tier universities in the state of Virginia.
I am married with two young children. As, I mentioned above, I have excellent technology and design skills (Adobe, Photoshop, PPT, Prezis), and I am also quite good at editing and creating high quality assessments (to include multiple choice, selected response items, essays and rubrics). I look forward to offering my services, and I am excited about the opportunities this site offers for teachers!
