I've been blessed to have been an educator for 15 years working in public schools in California. Most of my experience has been in the classroom teaching 3rd and 4th grade. I've also worked as a reading teacher and literacy coach.
I enjoy building connections with students by striving to be a positive influence through encouragement, goal setting, developing character, and celebrating accomplishments. I believe that when students understand that they are cared for and loved, they develop a stronger motivation, and as a result they put more effort into their work. When they feel the success of reaching goals, they develop more confidence and their desire to continue to succeed grows. With a positive management system in place, the foundation is set, so I spend my first few weeks focusing on establishing routines and getting management in place. I teach whole-group as well as small-group lessons in order to differentiate instruction and help meet the specific needs of students. I break my lessons into steps that students can follow by starting from whole and then breaking down parts. When teaching concepts, I state a clear objective and use modeling to show exactly what students will learn. I give specific examples and allow extensive opportunities for guided practice to enable students to master the concept before they have independent work. I monitor progress through a variety of assessments and observations. By checking for understanding throughout my lessons, I can adjust my delivery accordingly by either reteaching, showing more examples, or moving on. When students are showing mastery of the concept, I allow them to move on to something more challenging. On the other hand, those who need more practice will get that extra time. I plan on providing products that can be used for whole group, small group, and individual work based on common core standards and specific skills that are necessary for student success. I believe that being organized is also key, so I plan on creating helpful products that will benefit teachers in keeping themselves organized. I hope that my passion will come through in the products that I create, and I hope to help make life a little easier for my amazing colleagues! After all, we're in this together!
