TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I currently have 5 years of teaching experience at the middle school level. I am also an adjunct instructor at Lamar State College Orange for the ACE(Accelerated Certification in Education) program. This year, I accepted a position at the high school as the Literacy Coach. In this position, I am responsible for planning and providing professional development for our staff, creating assessments for English and monitoring data related to our curriculum benchmarks along with many other responsibilities.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a kinesthetic learner and like to use a multitude of strategies to teach my students. I feel the more hands-on a student has to create his or her understanding of the concept, the more they retain in their memory bank.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been in direct correspondence with Harry Wong concerning classroom organization and procedures and have been asked to submit many of my ideas to him. This has been most rewarding as I feel that when others recognize classroom strategies that work, you know you're doing something right! I have also created our school's first Teacher Toolkit that is used to help new teachers with campus procedures such as field trips, filling out referrals, etc. during first year.
