With a degree in Illustration my teaching has come in many different ways. I started teaching our homeschool friends and neighbors art lessons. These private lessons evolved into group classes with several families. After several years of building my curriculum, I decided to venture into art and literature in public schools. I began doing assemblies in which the entire school would watch me draw live illustrations. This was always followed by a lesson plan that I provided to the teachers. My current emphasis is now on creating children's literature and teaching basic drawing skills.
• Lots of open ended questions • Encouragement to explore solutions and reach understanding • Explain, Show Examples, Practice, Critique/Praise • Never talk down to young people • Expect them to do the work
I've won some gallery awards, and honors at my day job as a graphic designer, but those have no relevance in my teaching. I would eventually like to someday be awarded with a large group of accomplished adults who know how to draw, appreciate art and pass their education along to their children.
