I have been working in public education since 2003, teaching primarily grade 3. I work in a district that is always striving to meet the NEXT expectation and future standards. We fully converted to the Common Core State Standards in 2011-2012 and are now diligently preparing for the new assessment, Smarter Balance. I LOVE teaching and cannot imagine working in another career.
I am currently co-teaching with the special education teacher for writing and math. Therefore, my classroom has many of the lowest functioning students in the third grade. I differentiate as much as possible, teaching many skills in small groups and using all types of technology, as well as trying to reach all learning styles. I am always open to trying new ideas in my classroom and discovering the ways in which each of my students learn best.
I graduated with a B.A. from Grand Valley State University in Michigan in 2003, with my degree in Elementary Education. In 2010, I earned my M.Ed. from Marygrove College in Michigan with a focus on reading and literacy.
I live in Niles, Michigan with my husband and stepson in an old (1890) farmhouse that we are restoring.
