TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I spent one year working with k-6 in the area of phonics, reading, and writing. I spent one year working with grades 3, 4, and 6 working on all subject matter. I spent one year teaching 5th grade. I have spent the last 8 years teaching 3rd grade and I love it. I also spent a year working with a colleague writing a weekly blog for Scholastic.com. We created lessons for grades 1-3. I have had several trainings in Balanced Literacy, CGI (math), Algebraic Thinking, Fractions, Guided Reading, Technology, Common Core, Write from the Beginning, Thinking Maps, ELD, and Vocabulary.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I try to make things fun and interactive. I pull in as much technology as I can. My classroom is not a quiet one. The students are constantly talking to each other, but it's about whatever we are doing. I do a lot of pair-share, partner and group activities, as well as independent work. When teaching vocabulary words, we draw them out and do some kind of body motion to go with them.
