I taught first grade for 13 years, and am now beginning my 3rd year in third grade. Before that, I was always working with children, whether as a swim instructor, or as a tutor for mainstreamed high school students at the local School for the Blind.
I love getting into class discussions with the students. I think oral conversation is a great tool to learning. Reading aloud, using accents, intonation, expression, and acting tend to get students involved and wanting to read more. I also have been infusing Whole Brain Teaching into my style.
Getting to teach our future is an honor in itself!
I have my B.A. in Human Development, with my minor in Child Development. I also have the philosophy that one should never stop learning; I am always seeking new ways to improve in the classroom.
I tend to like clean lines and to make my work as cost-efficient as I can. I can't print in color at my school, and paper is rationed, so most everything I have is black and white. I also try to save paper by making things double-sided or on half-sheets. :)
