I am in my 9th year as a fourth grade teacher. I am also on my school's language arts curriculum committee. I work in a general education classroom that has students with learning disabilities integrated in. I love what I do, and wouldn't change it!
I use a wide variety of teaching strategies. My classroom has used stability balls as chairs for the past three years. This is something that I feel does help the wiggly student, and well as gives students the freedom to move in their seat.... the bouncing defiantly takes time getting used to :) I am also excited to begin paving the pathway in my district to incorporate Orton-Gillingham routines!
I have the honor of being an MTOSA (model teacher on special assignment) to help teachers integrate new multi-sensory routines into their classrooms. I love being able to share my passion with others and to help them become more motivated. As for other awards, I honestly don't want the spotlight for doing something that I feel all teachers should be doing... being the BEST teacher they can possibly be! All teachers work hard to help their students be successful!
I went to a small liberal arts college in Iowa. From there I got my first job in my dream school district and have been here ever since! I have worked the past five years as a general education teacher. The past four years, I have worked with students who have IEPs and difficulties with reading. I have learned the importance of being flexible, willing/able to modify assignments to meet all needs, and have used a wide variety of teaching methods to help students better understand skills.
I hope you enjoy my products, and find them to be useful aids in your classroom!
