I have worked in higher education for more than 25 years, teaching all levels of German language, literature, and culture. I currently teach German 1 and German 2 on outschool.com and hold a staff position in the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Iowa.
My teaching style involves keeping things fresh and energizing for the students while staying very, very organized. I work especially hard to help students work on key learning strategies.
I have earned two teaching awards, the Excellence in Teaching Award in Pedagogy from Valparaiso University in 2017 and the German Collegiate Teacher of the Year from the Indiana AATG in 2014. I have earned other awards in research and scholarship.
My BA degree is from St. Olaf College and my MA and PhD degrees are from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
If you have access to the Unterrichtspraxis, check out my articles in Volumes 33, 37, and 47.
