TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Currently the Technology Education course at the Lyme-Old Lyme middle school includes all 6, 7, and 8th grade students. The contents for the courses range from Bridge Engineering and Green Architecture to Wood Production. The program also includes a Career Education program that is team taught with the Family Consumer Sciences and Art teachers. Over the past few years the students at LOLMS have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and projects. Some include; Hydroponic and Organic Farming, Board Game Creation and Design, Community Service Construction projects, CANSTRUCTION, and the School of the Future Competition. The Lyme-Old Lyme Program is consistently changing and adapting as technology does. Mrs. Caffrey took the excitement she saw in her students from the School of the Future Competition and their desire for more sustainability in the world and created a cutting edge course of study. The Green Architecture Curriculum is being used all over the country and she has spoken and given workshops for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and National Education Association (NEA). The course incorporates a variety of teaching strategies and includes; STEM, Language Arts, and Mathematics concepts and skills.
